Vauxhall Zafira (2005 on)

Our rating:

From Verdict on Cars: The original Zafira really shook up the compact MPV segment when it was launched, introducing the concept of seven seats in a mid-sized people carrier. And the second generation model sticks closely to the established recipe – tough construction, attractive styling and the clever third row of seats that slide under the boot floor while not in use.

From Parker’s: The original Zafira revolutionised the people carrier market with it’s clever seating, spacious interior and plenty of family-friendly features. Vauxhall has carried these strengths on to this model but added sharper styling, improved build quality and refinement too. There are plenty of neat features such as storage boxes in the roof, keyless entry and an optional panoramic glass roof but compared to newer people carrier the Zafira is limited in its flexibility and the once class-leading Flex7 now seems clumsy and awkward. It’s also not great to drive, however it is spacious and there’s a huge range of engines and trims on offer. In early 2008 it was tweaked slightly with some styling changes and improved levels of standard equipment.

From Top Gear:  The Vauxhall Zafira has become the UK’s default family car, thanks to the flexible seating options, and, crucially, the ease of swapping between them. It’s not too grim to drive either.

From What Car:  The Zafira is fun to drive and cheap to run, but some rivals are more versatile.
